What are your thoughts on the RNC's attack ad against Harold Ford Jr.?  Racist?  Not racist?

If you haven't seen it, check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWkrwENN5CQ.

Racist! On one level it appears to be about a promiscuous lifestyle but at a more sinister level , the young blond getting together with a black man is derived from a more long term historical foundation of racism in this country.
My hope is that most of us are now sophisticated enough to see it for what it is and that the people who thought this ad up and the people that respond to the racism in it represent a dwindling population of Neanderthals who will lose on Tuesday.

Absolutely, Brian!  My feeling is (and I think I expressed this opinion in my 'lost' episode, that was trashed by technical difficulties) that the Republican Party this election cycle completely gave up trying to convince independents, or moderate conservatives.  Those people are gone, they may have been able to trick them in 2004, but not any longer.  You can see that in the polls that have been released asking the question "Who are you most likely to vote for: Democrats or Republicans?"  The Big D wins most of those polls by a 53% to 35% margin (somewhere in that range.)

So their political strategy is to promote these really ignorant, shallow, racist, hateful stereotypes -- because if they can motivate that 25% on the country that are total right-wing morons, and they all come out to vote, then they can make this a close race.

But I like our chances.   Grin
