Pentacle

From Fox News (yeah, I know I can’t believe I’m referencing them either but they’re covering the story):
Wiccan Pentacle Added to Emblems Allowed on Headstones

“MADISON, Wis. — The Wiccan pentacle has been added to the list of emblems allowed in national cemeteries and on goverment-issued headstones of fallen soldiers, according to a settlement announced Monday.

A settlement between the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Wiccans adds the five-pointed star to the list of “emblems of belief” allowed on VA grave markers.

Eleven families nationwide are waiting for grave markers with the pentacle, said Selena Fox, a Wiccan high priestess with Circle Sanctuary in Barneveld, Wis., a plaintiff in the lawsuit.”

Below is part of an article from The Nation, Tax the Rich, End the War by Nicholas Van Hoffman. Excellent Idea! If Bush does follow through on his threat and refuses to sign the supplemental, then the Democrats should tie tax increases for the very wealthy into the next supplemental they put on his desk. Want your money, Mr. Bush? Then raise taxes! Fat chance but Van Hoffman makes a great point here: “The Democrats can tax our way out of the war. This would be a Victory Over Terror tax to be levied on incomes of $5 million a year or more. It should be a surcharge of 20 percent over and above what people in that rarified income bracket are already paying. It should be levied on all income, regardless of what form it takes, so it would include stock options, jet plane rides, company-paid-for health and life insurance, retirement programs, golden parachutes, the use of apartments in Paris, cars and drivers. The people in this stratospheric income category have enjoyed the big tax cuts that have gone into effect while the nation has been attacked and been at war. Individuals making $1.25 million a year have gotten tax cuts of almost 20 percent, but many of these would be spared paying the Victory Over Terror tax, which only cuts in at the $5 million level. Needless to say, those paying this tax do not represent the Democrats’ voter base. As these things go, this is politically pain-free. The tax is aimed at war profiteers, overpaid CEOs and grossly fat cats in general, most of whom carry a lot of weight at the White House. If there is any group of people in the world whom George Bush listens to, it is this bunch of billionaires. Call this a backdoor use of the power of the purse. And since the surcharge expires when the war on terror is won or declared over, those taxed will have a powerful incentive to tell the President it is time to get a move on.”

Look into the eyes of the innocent…If this doesn’t bring tears to your own eyes, I don’t know anything that will. This innocent 3 year old boy was denied Medicaid for heart surgery thanks to another new republican law requiring citizens to show a passport or a certified birth certificate and a driver’s license before receiving Medicaid. The Deficit Reduction Act is doing exactly that by denying necessary and sometimes life saving medical care to innocent children along with as many other people as possible by making it difficult to obtain the assistance they deserve and require. Will we hear the administration brag a few months from now how they have successfully reduced the number of Medicaid recipients? Will the reduced numbers help the administration push through additional tax cuts for the wealthy or repeal the estate tax? Ask the next republican you see if they have any conscience. No don’t bother. We all know the answer. They have proven they would sell out anyone to add one more almighty dollar to their already over flowing cookie jar. Every republican is a scumbag as far as I am concerned. They have ruined our country and are doing a great job in the rest of the world also. Wake Up all you Republican Scumbags. It is time to start thinking (that alone might help) of others instead of only yourself. You can find the article Citizens Who Lack Papers Lose Medicaid in the New York Times.

Libby guilty! Could this be the cure for the common cold?

Well I’m home sick today and have plenty of time to listen to the feeding frenzy going on surrounding the Libby verdict. After hearing the verdict on CNN I immediately went to FOX to see how the White House’s personal propaganda outlet would be taking the news and I wasn’t disappointed. Their resident experts were in the midst of whining and complaining about mistakes, unfairness, and disbelief.
Back over on MSNBC a juror was making a statement about how the jury was pissed that the real criminal, Cheney, wasn’t on trial instead.
Then Nora O’Donnell (abrasive as ever) interviewed Howard Dean. Dean’s message? Bush had better not issue a pardon.
Meanwhile, Joe Wilson is due to have a conference call with reporters at 2:30, then will give an exclusive interview to Olbermann tonight.
Meanwhile, returning to FOX, they are STILL whining.
There has not been much to smile about in the last six years, so I’m trying to enjoy the moment
and I’m actually starting to feel better!

Think the idiots in the Oval Office won’t attack Iran? Think again. You must read Iran-Ready to Attack at Newstatesman.com. Dan Plesch has pulled together the pieces and laid bare the horrendous and stark reality. The plans to use force against Iraq have been signed, sealed and delivered. British sources told Plesch that the idiots ( he might not have used that exact term) in the oval office turned their attention to Iran as soon as Saddam fled Baghdad. According to Plesch, everything appears to be falling into place and the strike on Iran could happen any day. The ships have all sailed. Strategic bases to be used for staging have been built at various locations in the Middle East. Training has taken place. Preparations have all been made. The military is on high alert and poised in a state of readiness. Plus the Marines have not been bogged down in Iraq. If you liked shock and awe in Iraq, wait until you see how smart the smart bomb is now. Congress has thrown gobs of taxpayer dollars into new technology and the smart bomb is now smaller, lighter and more powerful than when it was used to pulverize Iraq more than three years ago. The military now possesses the capability to hit 10,000 targets in one single raid. The damage will be beyond comprehension and Plesch says it will all be over before we even hear about it. I strongly urge you to PLEASE read the article, pass it on and do whatever it takes to stop this nightmare from becoming a reality. If we attack Iran, it will cease to be just a war over there as the neocons like to say. I guarantee the repercussions will be felt by all of us here at home. Posted by Meg

    “Conspiracy Theorists” versus Corporate Journalists
I recently read an article in the New Yorker Magazine that really pissed me off. So I wrote the guy and a letter to the editor. Ordinarily, I read the New Yorker to get pissed off at someone other than the writer, but not this time. This “guy” turns out to be the Dean of the Columbia School of Journalism and after doing a little research found that he regularly bashes bloggers and the whole idea of alternative media by contrasting them with “real” journalists. The article is entitled “Paranoid Style” and can be found in the Oct 16 edition. Below is the letter I sent.
Lumping everyone who feels compelled to speak out against the outrages that this country has had to endure under this Bush Administration into a troubled culture on the left in need of psychoanalysis is apparently what Nicholas Lemann attempts to accomplish in his piece entitled, “Paranoid Style.”
From bloggers and podcasters to activists and filmmakers we are seeing an outpouring of work that is attempting to address not only the outrages coming from this White House, but the corporate media, which is perceived more and more each day as a partisan tool of the current power structure, and return the role of the press to checking power with truth. This new media revolution is a democratically based alternative media movement that is more based in truth than spin, and democracy than capitalism.
Lemann’s premise is based in the world of the 911 Truth Movement, where the label of “conspiracy theorist” is routinely used by those who are quick to stereotype millions of citizens around the world who feel short changed by the reigning official explanation, then extends this label across the issues to include Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s work on election fraud, and reputable films by filmmakers like Robert Greenwald (”Iraq for Sale”) and Eugene Jarecki (”Why We Fight”).
Most of this new media movement is fueled by dedicated citizen’s whose concern for the fate of this democracy compels them to spend their all too limited free time trying to do the job that the well paid, mainstream media, including Mr. Lemann, are failing to do.
It is so easy to dismiss anyone raising questions about the 911 attacks by simply uttering the stereotype label “conspiracy theorist” instead of doing the hard, investigative work that journalist should have and should still be doing. It took a handful of widows from New Jersey and millions of supporters to even get a 911 investigation launched, only to have the administration
that opposed it, set up an underfunded whitewash overseen by their man Phillip Zelikow who then proceeded to hand pick the evidence while dismissing a multitude of unanswered questions. And in the aftermath and the run up to the war in Iraq, while the corporate media lended it’s hand to flag waving, this country’s new media got to work and have been a new journalistic force in checking the abuse of power ever since.
If I may be permitted to return the favor to Mr. Lemann with a bit of psychoanalysis of my own, I would say that “Paranoid Style” projects the self-serving attributes that motivate the White House, the corporate media and you sir, onto a movement that is motivated by concern for the fate of this country, it’s Constitution, and, yes, even freedom of the press.

After writing that I am more convinced than ever that we all need to keep doing our part to hold the mainstream media accountable.

Unions, yes Labor Unions, remember them?, are all watching China to see how the possibly biggest confrontation between labor and capital in many, many years unfolds. According to the NY Times article :

SHANGHAI, Oct. 12 — China is planning to adopt a new law that seeks to crack down on sweatshops and protect workers’ rights by giving labor unions real power for the first time since it introduced market forces in the 1980’s.
The NY Times resports that workers have already set up unions in all 66 Wal Mart outlets in China and are looking to do the same with companies like Kodak and Dell.
I noticed this story was quickly taken off the front page after I read it online and a followup story was published the following day that skewed the emphasis away from U.S. Corporations opposing these basic workers rights and towards a depiction of the government-sanctioned All-China Federation of Trade Unions as wanting to exert conrol over the work force in China. In other words the bad guy went from U.S. Corporations one day to the All-China Federation of Trade Unions the next.

Tim Costello is a member of Global Labor Strategies and their analysis of the story is the one to read.
“‘You have big corporations opposing basically modest reforms,” said Tim Costello, an official of the group and a longtime labor union advocate. “This flies in the face of the idea that globalization and corporations will raise standards around the world.’”
Their report goes on to say that:
This corporate campaign contradicts the justifications that have been given for public policies that encourage corporations to invest in China. US based corporations have repeatedly argued that they are raising human and labor rights standards abroad. But US based corporations are trying to block legislation designed to improve the remuneration, treatment, health and safety, and other standards of Chinese workers.

Where is all this leading? If the standard of living of Chinese workers is raised to a comparable world level will where will the corporations go next?
The corporations can’t argue on the one hand that they are lifting Chinese workers out of poverty and on the other hand oppose basic labor reform. And the U.S. government is going to find it more difficult to uphold this contradiction through policy. Their biggest fear is that workers everywhere are going to figure this out and the words that strike fear into the hearts of the Corporate class will take on new, real meaning when resurrected. Workers of the world, unite!

    Avalon Farms Coming out day

Come out come out where ever you are!
It is a proven fact that straight people who know gay & lesbian people, tend to vote more favorably for issues that effect gay & lesbian people. At the moment we need as much help as we can find in Tennessee. This election cycle we are ground zero for anti gay legislation. Anti-gay hate mongers are converging on the state to promote Amendment 1, an addition to the Tennessee state constitution to deny Gay & Lesbian people the right to marry.
Here is my letter to the editor in response to Rev. Jerry Sutton’s article in today’s paper. He is hosting James Dobson next week at his church. (I guess he couldn’t sell enough tickets at the arena where it was originally scheduled) Anyway, don’t know if they’ll print it or not but here it is for your review…

    Tennessean
    October 11, 2006
    To the editor

In response to Rev. Jerry Sutton’s article on October 11th I hope his vision of “a tremendous legacy” does not bear itself out on election day.
Yes, ample proof does exist to verify that most stable adults are products of a loving home with both a mother and father. The reason is simple….most people are raised in heterosexual households. It isn’t the only type of family however that can provide a loving, nurturing home & environment in which to raise a child. Besides Rev. Sutton’s example of a traditional household, other children have two mommies or two daddies. Others may have a mommy or a daddy in a single parent home. Still more children may have a grandmother or an aunt raising them. Many of these children have also grown up to become decent, inspiring, contributing members of our society. The reason for their success & the common factor between all of these different types of families is simple…LOVE. Why is it I am talking to a preacher about that? I thought it was his job to teach us that lesson. Maybe he’s too busy dabbling in politics right now to work on his lesson plan.

Because he is in the majority as a heterosexual, Rev Sutton & his pal James Dobson and others feel they have the right to dictate how the rest of us should live. They have decided that by allowing one group to have certain rights, it somehow takes rights away from another group. “If gay people marry…traditional marriage will be destroyed” huh? How in the world are those even connected? Tell me right now which heterosexual marriages are on very shaky ground right now because I have been in love with my partner (another woman) for eleven years. Come on stand up. I want to know which marriages I’m destroying. Show me one and maybe I’ll listen. The only marriage I know of destroyed because I’m a lesbian is the one I tried to have with a man because I tried to be someone I am not.

One purpose in forming our government was to protect the minority among us from the majority among us who might become tyrannical. Barry Goldwater said that the religious right has no business in politics. I agree with him and I’m a democrat. I’m voting NO on amendment 1 because I believe the constitution should only be changed to expand rights not to deny rights to anybody. I am not living in “a vacuum” Rev. Sutton. I am living in a diverse world in the twenty first century. You sir are living in the dark ages.

    Protest picture bomb
In this podcast: A North Korea discussion, disgust with our media, and highlights from the World Can’t Wait protest on October 5th. Speakers on: Paul Wellstone; an Iraq War Veteran; speakers on 9/11 and capitalism, and sounds from the protest march itself. Music from the rally by Mr. Cadillac, at the end by AC/DC, and in the middle by Known Unknown’s, “Blinded By The Politics of Fear”

I include a brief interview done by a PPN forum member with a protester who got sprayed with pepper spray and shoved around by police in Portland.

Also included is a discussion of North Korea, Bush’s failure to act and failure of foreign policy regarding the country, and now how they are trying to blame Bill Clinton, (even John McCain!)

Dissent has never been more important in America than it is right now, unless you count during the Revolutionary War. The World Can’t Wait website with great desciptions of various protests, plans for more, what you can do now, and great speaker audio including Alice Walker can all be found here.

We need to impeach George W. Bush, so be sure you are registered to vote for November’s election!

Mr. Mark Foley! I think you just handed the Democrats and liberals the election this fall. Thank you, Sir Slimey! This podcast covers the Mark Foley scandal, (former Representative from Florida, resigned); Bush’s plan for the Middle East, (including why Lebanon vs. Israel happened); Bush’s ‘State of Denial’ as proven in a couple of his speeches; a conservative guest rant from ‘Ozone’ of the podcast “Democrats are Lost” (an ultra-conservative who defends Israel); and an excerpt from the actual book “State of Denial” by Bob Woodward.
That brings up Condi Rice’s famous brush-off of George Tenet’s attempt to warn her of the imminent danger of 9/11 coming up, back on July 10, 2001. This is written about in detail in Woodward’s book and yes, the State Department does say that Tenet had a special meeting about al Qaeda with Condi Rice in July of 2001. She can deny it all she wants - we won’t believe her because too many people dispute her claims and she’s a proven liar.

Will the Democrats take both houses back? Ten Senate seats are either tied or Democrats are ahead. -This is a big surprise and it all happened before Foley’s boy-page-IM scandal!

I will be at the World Can’t Wait protest Thursday, October 5. The U.S. is headed for fascism, fast and furious, and the Democrats aren’t helping, but there are millions of us to march in the streets on Thursday. JOIN US. Here is the article I mentioned in the podcast that was in Rolling Stone Magazine: Will the Next Election be Hacked? by RFK Jr.

Promos played: Avalon Farmcast, a new member of the Progressive Podcast Network, and Last of the Super Heroes which you can find at the PPN.

Music played: ‘SoULS Of ChAoS’ by Michael Burns; Koba, ‘Rise Up Move’; and ‘Support the Truth’ by Jim’s Big Ego.

lion madI think you’ve been exposed, Mr. Bush. You can’t use Osama to do your dirty work for you anymore. The French have blown your cover story. According to the French ministry, it looks like he finally died in August of typhoid. In fact, that report was from Saudi intelligence. You no doubt knew that, George. Yet you and the CIA and probably the cat kept dragging in old videos of him to terrify the people you claim to want to protect.

Then after this year’s annual 9/11 Scare-Fest, you again ratcheted up the heat and the rhetoric on finding bin Laden, like you do every year. Then you meet with Middle Eastern leaders like it’s not all a big sham, and then you give your threatening speech at the UN and like last time, you expect anyone to pay attention to your fearmongering and threats. In between, you’ve been saying that bin Laden wasn’t such a scary guy after all. If this is true, and you knew it all along, then you’re even lower than I thought; a cruel, dishonest, prying, rights-sucking thug, you with your fellow lover/hater of freedom, Alberto Gonzalez, and all your dishonest cabal of crooks and criminals. You’re the lowest of the low, if indeed you actually knew bin Laden was dead all this time and were still dragging out that ridiculous old video, using him to dangle phantom terror over our heads while piously using 9/11 for your own twisted political agenda.

True, there are a lot of ifs in there, but we all know you know more than you’re letting on. You can’t possibly be as stupid as you act.

Time to get pissed off and plan where you’ll be on October 5th, everyone.

    Good cop bad cop

Bush claimed that the Geneva Convention, article 3 which forbids “outrages upon personal dignity, in particular, humiliating and degrading treatment”, was vague and he needed more specific guidelines.
McCain, Warner, and Graham claimed that they were defending the Geneva Accords.
So there needed to be some sort of resolution to this “problem”, a problem they created and pulled off as a fight in the public arena, but in the end Bush got exactly what he wanted, a law that specifies some particulars about treatment, but anything not on the list is fair game.
AND why do we even need the Geneva agreement when they have their own law now? A law that replaces the vagueness of the Geneva wording. Never mind that that so-called vagueness covers EVERYTHING that falls under “outrages upon personal dignity, in particular, humiliating and degrading treatment”.
Collen Rowley has an excellent breakdown of what actually went down, on the Huffington Post.

“Of the three major flaws in the bill Bush originally presented to Congress, only one has been removed: suspects will have the right to examine the evidence against them, subject to existing rules designed to protect national security. Protection against arbitrary and indefinite incarceration was not part of Bush’s proposal, nor is it in the compromise bill. And despite powerful rhetoric about “the integrity and the letter and the spirit of the Geneva Conventions,” Bush got his way on that as well. Abuses which were never under discussion — murder, mutilation and rape, for example — are now explicitly prohibited; otherwise the President decides what can happen. In other words, this bill would explicitly allow the interrogation practices used at Abu Ghraib, so long as George Bush approved them”

“And anyone who claims that I and others like me are ’soft,’ or have ‘forgotten”‘ the lessons of what happened here is at best a grasping, opportunistic, dilettante and at worst, an idiot whether he is a commentator, or a Vice President, or a President.”– Keith Olbermann

I think he truly is turning into Edward R. Murrow and he may eventually be responsible for changing the media, the nature of media commentary, or even saving the country. His latest 9/11 commentary was the third in recent memory that was an eloquent commentary on the state of propaganda, partisanship and our nation’s political climate in general. Instead of just saying “can’t we all just get along” he has seriously looked at why it is that we apparently can’t, and courageously pointed his finger in the direction of our country’s massive black hole that sucks everything horrible in it. Yes, the Bush regime and its merry band of excusers and profiteering sycophants.

The Republican party, still unable to be grateful for the power they hold over the country, are still whinging about the Democrats, who have no power whatsoever. Yet, no power whatsoever is not enough for the Republicans. I think they want to wipe liberals and Democrats and everyone “not Republican” off the face of the earth along with al Qaeda, terrorists, and others they hate. Because the Republicans are all about hate. Hating and killing. That is a completely fair thing to say because that is ALL I hear coming out of their mouths lately: bitching about Democrats, wild-eyed comments on “liberals”, and their burning desire to kill people. Pretty much anyone; they don’t seem too picky.

Their leader has said we are in a clash of civilizations; a life or death struggle, “It is the decisive ideological struggle of the 21st century, and the calling of our generation,” he spouts, glassy-eyed, and continues with more such over-arching hyperbole that would make McCarthy himself blush. We can only hope Keith Olbermann keeps up the good fight to counteract such monumentally false nonsense. Here’s a snip of his speech from his live broadcast on September 11:

“History teaches us that nearly unanimous support of a government cannot be taken away from that government by its critics. It can only be squandered by those who use it not to heal a nation’s wounds, but to take political advantage.

Terrorists did not come and steal our newly-regained sense of being American first, and political, fiftieth. Nor did the Democrats. Nor did the media. Nor did the people.

The President — and those around him — did that.
They promised bi-partisanship, and then showed that to them, “bi-partisanship” meant that their party would rule and the rest would have to follow, or be branded, with ever-escalating hysteria, as morally or intellectually confused, as appeasers, as those who, in the Vice President’s words yesterday, “validate the strategy of the terrorists.”

They promised protection, and then showed that to them “protection” meant going to war against a despot whose hand they had once shaken, a despot who we now learn from our own Senate Intelligence Committee, hated al-Qaida as much as we did.

The polite phrase for how so many of us were duped into supporting a war, on the false premise that it had ’something to do’ with 9/11 is “lying by implication.”

The impolite phrase is “impeachable offense.”
Not once in now five years has this President ever offered to assume responsibility for the failures that led to this empty space, and to this, the current, curdled, version of our beloved country.

Still, there is a last snapping flame from a final candle of respect and fairness: even his most virulent critics have never suggested he alone bears the full brunt of the blame for 9/11.

Half the time, in fact, this President has been so gently treated, that he has seemed not even to be the man most responsible for anything in his own administration.

Yet what is happening this very night?
A mini-series, created, influenced — possibly financed by — the most radical and cold of domestic political Machiavellis, continues to be televised into our homes.

The documented truths of the last fifteen years are replaced by bald-faced lies; the talking points of the current regime parroted; the whole sorry story blurred, by spin, to make the party out of office seem vacillating and impotent, and the party in office, seem like the only option.

How dare you, Mr. President, after taking cynical advantage of the unanimity and love, and transmuting it into fraudulent war and needless death, after monstrously transforming it into fear and suspicion and turning that fear into the campaign slogan of three elections? How dare you — or those around you — ever “spin” 9/11?

Rock on, Keith, and don’t stop now.

    Mike Malloy Fired Air America
Late night on Air America Radio will never be the same now Mike Malloy has been fired. It is being reported his time slot will be taken over by the wonderful and articulate Laura Flanders but in my opinion, her style is not really conducive to the late night radio audience.

Although some of the other AAR personalities are excellent, there is nobody quite like Mike.
Some religious zealots, those less enlightened as well as others will no doubt be happy to see Mike go but not me. In fact I must credit him with saving my sanity if not my life immediately following the 2004 faux presidential election. At that time I swear the only thing that kept me from slitting my wrists was listening late at night to Mike’s voice consoling others who felt the same way I did. He helped me feel less crazy.

Mike could be rough and abrasive at times but also had a softer side when the moment called for it. During the past two years, I have listened to Mike appropriately rant and rave on many issues. I saw his anger as justified when pointing out the unlawful and hypocritical antics we are often subjected to by the administration. I also witnessed his anger turn on a dime and tone it down when trying to calm the nerves of a scared listener. I could closely relate when the caller was a mother concerned about protecting her children from the pending doom being brought upon our country by the administration. Mike never sugar coated the facts but he would talk to those callers of different options while giving them the courage and hope to fight on.

Listeners always got the truth from Mike Malloy, which is a scarce commodity in the media today. I, for one, certainly hope Mike’s voice will find another place to broadcast. In these trying times we are in desperate need of voices we can trust to entertain and inform us while giving us the straight scoop. Mike is one of those voices and we can’t afford to lose him. What is your problem Air America? Wake Up or give me back my money!

Big Brother Bush Cheney Rumsfeld As you have no doubt noticed by now, many people and blogs are accusing the Bush regime of being similar to, if not outright, fascists. This caused Donald Rumsfeld to lash out by accusing his critics (most of the world) and the Iraq war critics (most of the world) as being like Nazis. What a grown-up!
Today, Iran defied the Bush regime and decided to go ahead with their nuclear plans, whatever they are. I wish we as citizens had such in-your-face power to wield. Meanwhile, Bush continues to use language against U.S. citizens as a subversive weapon. By constantly repeating the phrase, “I don’t consider anyone who disagrees with the war as unpatriotic” he is in fact telling everyone that that is exactly what he thinks. We’re on to you George! Today Bush is again on the offensive in defending the mess that is his war and again . . . he gave a speech today and promised there will be more to come. Bush is, after all, little more than a PR and propaganda figurehead. (Please let that be true.) He remarked:

“In the coming days, I’ll deliver a series of speeches describing the nature of our enemy in the war on terror, the insights we’ve gained about their aims and ambitions, the successes and setbacks we’ve experienced, and our strategy to prevail in this long war,” Mr. Bush said.”

Great - then we’ll all know what’s going on. Not! Who does this creature think he’s fooling? Then he said, “Doubtless familiar with polls showing increasing numbers of Americans drawing a distinction between the Iraq war and a larger battle against terrorism, Mr. Bush invoked the approaching anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks to rebut that view.” What an idiot if he thinks we’re going to buy what he’s selling. Because Americans are nothing if not policy geniuses. What I hate is the fact that Karl Rove knows Americans are too busy working three jobs because of the great economy to pay attention to the facts in the news as opposed to Bush’s blatant propaganda.

Here’s my real question: How far will Bush go in defense of his Grand Plan or scheme, or whatever it is? Yesterday, (thanks to the Twilight and Thebes podcast) I learned that the Bush team just submitted a new plan to keep people - whoever he feels like - incarcerated forever with a certain enemy combatant designation until the conflict is over or the world ends, whichever comes first. They are trying to overturn the Supreme Court Hamden decision. Here is a great discussion of this despicable plan, “We’re All Enemy Combatants Now“. He is attempting to set up martial law and a Police State forever, folks. The article states: “According to the draft, the military would be allowed to detain all “enemy combatants” until hostilities cease. The bill defines enemy combatants as anyone “engaged in hostilities against the United States or its coalition partners who has committed an act that violates the law of war and this statute.” Let me go on record as finding this . . . . alarming. How many of our rights to they want do get rid of? Oh yeah, all of them.

We have to hope like hell this doesn’t become law because if it does, Net Neutrality sure won’t matter. All the detractors, dissenters, or Bush ‘opponents’ and us anti-war people will be in jail, sans computers, indefinitely. We can’t let the fascists win this because if they do, our country is history.

Michael DeKort puts whistleblower story on You Tube.

    Via The Washington Post:
On YouTube, Charges of Security Flaws

    “Michael De Kort was frustrated.

The 41-year-old Lockheed Martin engineer had complained to his bosses. He had told his story to government investigators. He had called congressmen.

But when no one seemed to be stepping up to correct what he saw as critical security flaws in a fleet of refurbished Coast Guard patrol boats, De Kort did just about the only thing left he could think of to get action: He made a video and posted it on YouTube.com.”

-I wonder if this will start a trend. This could be a good way to turn You Tube into a serious political soapbox.
