lion madI think you’ve been exposed, Mr. Bush. You can’t use Osama to do your dirty work for you anymore. The French have blown your cover story. According to the French ministry, it looks like he finally died in August of typhoid. In fact, that report was from Saudi intelligence. You no doubt knew that, George. Yet you and the CIA and probably the cat kept dragging in old videos of him to terrify the people you claim to want to protect.

Then after this year’s annual 9/11 Scare-Fest, you again ratcheted up the heat and the rhetoric on finding bin Laden, like you do every year. Then you meet with Middle Eastern leaders like it’s not all a big sham, and then you give your threatening speech at the UN and like last time, you expect anyone to pay attention to your fearmongering and threats. In between, you’ve been saying that bin Laden wasn’t such a scary guy after all. If this is true, and you knew it all along, then you’re even lower than I thought; a cruel, dishonest, prying, rights-sucking thug, you with your fellow lover/hater of freedom, Alberto Gonzalez, and all your dishonest cabal of crooks and criminals. You’re the lowest of the low, if indeed you actually knew bin Laden was dead all this time and were still dragging out that ridiculous old video, using him to dangle phantom terror over our heads while piously using 9/11 for your own twisted political agenda.

True, there are a lot of ifs in there, but we all know you know more than you’re letting on. You can’t possibly be as stupid as you act.

Time to get pissed off and plan where you’ll be on October 5th, everyone.

Bush claimed that the Geneva Convention, article 3 which forbids “outrages upon personal dignity, in particular, humiliating and degrading treatment”, was vague and he needed more specific guidelines.
McCain, Warner, and Graham claimed that they were defending the Geneva Accords.
So there needed to be some sort of resolution to this “problem”, a problem they created and pulled off as a fight in the public arena, but in the end Bush got exactly what he wanted, a law that specifies some particulars about treatment, but anything not on the list is fair game.
AND why do we even need the Geneva agreement when they have their own law now? A law that replaces the vagueness of the Geneva wording. Never mind that that so-called vagueness covers EVERYTHING that falls under “outrages upon personal dignity, in particular, humiliating and degrading treatment”.
Collen Rowley has an excellent breakdown of what actually went down, on the Huffington Post.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/coleen-rowley/
a-missed-opportunity-for-_b_30052.html

“Of the three major flaws in the bill Bush originally presented to Congress, only one has been removed: suspects will have the right to examine the evidence against them, subject to existing rules designed to protect national security. Protection against arbitrary and indefinite incarceration was not part of Bush’s proposal, nor is it in the compromise bill. And despite powerful rhetoric about “the integrity and the letter and the spirit of the Geneva Conventions,” Bush got his way on that as well. Abuses which were never under discussion — murder, mutilation and rape, for example — are now explicitly prohibited; otherwise the President decides what can happen. In other words, this bill would explicitly allow the interrogation practices used at Abu Ghraib, so long as George Bush approved them”

From News Hounds:

Bill O’Reilly Endorses Waterboarding As Safe and Reliable

Bill O’Reilly will not rest until he proves that harsh interrogation, never call it torture, really gets results. Tonight he had Brian Ross, ABC News, on The Factor to reinforce his claims that the CIA use of “alternative” interrogation methods like waterboarding are not only safe but very effective breaking down 14 terror suspects. Then Carol Bogart, Human Rights Watch, appeared so BOR could feel personally vindicated but his plan fell short. .

O’Reilly was really setting the stage questioning Ross about his sources making sure that the viewers saw him as a reputable source. Ross claimed that 14 detainees with very important information about future terror plots broke down and talked after waterboarding.

O’Reilly tried to be low key about waterboarding but Ross was very clear about it’s horrors. He claimed that the toughest suspect broke down in 21/2 minutes but most only lasted for 30 seconds.Ross hesitated but admitted that it probably could kill someone but it definitely makes you feel like you’re dying because it causes an uncontrollable gag reflex.

“And anyone who claims that I and others like me are ’soft,’ or have ‘forgotten”‘ the lessons of what happened here is at best a grasping, opportunistic, dilettante and at worst, an idiot whether he is a commentator, or a Vice President, or a President.”– Keith Olbermann

I think he truly is turning into Edward R. Murrow and he may eventually be responsible for changing the media, the nature of media commentary, or even saving the country. His latest 9/11 commentary was the third in recent memory that was an eloquent commentary on the state of propaganda, partisanship and our nation’s political climate in general. Instead of just saying “can’t we all just get along” he has seriously looked at why it is that we apparently can’t, and courageously pointed his finger in the direction of our country’s massive black hole that sucks everything horrible in it. Yes, the Bush regime and its merry band of excusers and profiteering sycophants.

The Republican party, still unable to be grateful for the power they hold over the country, are still whinging about the Democrats, who have no power whatsoever. Yet, no power whatsoever is not enough for the Republicans. I think they want to wipe liberals and Democrats and everyone “not Republican” off the face of the earth along with al Qaeda, terrorists, and others they hate. Because the Republicans are all about hate. Hating and killing. That is a completely fair thing to say because that is ALL I hear coming out of their mouths lately: bitching about Democrats, wild-eyed comments on “liberals”, and their burning desire to kill people. Pretty much anyone; they don’t seem too picky.

Their leader has said we are in a clash of civilizations; a life or death struggle, “It is the decisive ideological struggle of the 21st century, and the calling of our generation,” he spouts, glassy-eyed, and continues with more such over-arching hyperbole that would make McCarthy himself blush. We can only hope Keith Olbermann keeps up the good fight to counteract such monumentally false nonsense. Here’s a snip of his speech from his live broadcast on September 11:

“History teaches us that nearly unanimous support of a government cannot be taken away from that government by its critics. It can only be squandered by those who use it not to heal a nation’s wounds, but to take political advantage.

Terrorists did not come and steal our newly-regained sense of being American first, and political, fiftieth. Nor did the Democrats. Nor did the media. Nor did the people.

The President — and those around him — did that.
They promised bi-partisanship, and then showed that to them, “bi-partisanship” meant that their party would rule and the rest would have to follow, or be branded, with ever-escalating hysteria, as morally or intellectually confused, as appeasers, as those who, in the Vice President’s words yesterday, “validate the strategy of the terrorists.”

They promised protection, and then showed that to them “protection” meant going to war against a despot whose hand they had once shaken, a despot who we now learn from our own Senate Intelligence Committee, hated al-Qaida as much as we did.

The polite phrase for how so many of us were duped into supporting a war, on the false premise that it had ’something to do’ with 9/11 is “lying by implication.”

The impolite phrase is “impeachable offense.”
Not once in now five years has this President ever offered to assume responsibility for the failures that led to this empty space, and to this, the current, curdled, version of our beloved country.

Still, there is a last snapping flame from a final candle of respect and fairness: even his most virulent critics have never suggested he alone bears the full brunt of the blame for 9/11.

Half the time, in fact, this President has been so gently treated, that he has seemed not even to be the man most responsible for anything in his own administration.

Yet what is happening this very night?
A mini-series, created, influenced — possibly financed by — the most radical and cold of domestic political Machiavellis, continues to be televised into our homes.

The documented truths of the last fifteen years are replaced by bald-faced lies; the talking points of the current regime parroted; the whole sorry story blurred, by spin, to make the party out of office seem vacillating and impotent, and the party in office, seem like the only option.

How dare you, Mr. President, after taking cynical advantage of the unanimity and love, and transmuting it into fraudulent war and needless death, after monstrously transforming it into fear and suspicion and turning that fear into the campaign slogan of three elections? How dare you — or those around you — ever “spin” 9/11?

Rock on, Keith, and don’t stop now.

How dare they do this! This is getting totally out of control. A contributor sent this to me today and it outraged me enough to give it top billing for the day. Google is planning to tap into our internal computer microphones to monitor and data mine what people listen to in the background, whatever that may be. Music, videos, conversations, Skype calls, TV and radio, and your dog barking. This is insanity. We deserve some modicum of privacy in our own homes. The first and fourth amendments still exists, after all! It also surprises me, considering that Google is a big proponent of net neutrality. How can they be so on the right side of something important and then on the wrong side of something just as important! There goes the last of our privacy… watch it fly out the window. From The Register:

“The first thing that came out of our mouths when we heard that Google is working on a system that listens to what’s on your TV playing in the background, and then serves you relevant adverts, was “that’s cool, but dangerous“.
The idea appeared in Technology Review citing Peter Norvig, director of research at Google, who says these ideas will show up eventually in real Google products - sooner rather than later.
The idea is to use the existing PC microphone to listen to whatever is heard in the background, be it music, your phone going off or the TV turned down. The PC then identifies it, using fingerprinting, and then shows you relevant content, whether that’s adverts or search results, or a chat room on the subject.”

We have to do something, call Congressmen, splash this on your websites, yell out the window, something. We need to research how to stop this. Our equipment is bought and paid for by us to serve us and be useful tools, not to allow the government or Google to spy on us. It serves us and I will not pay for equipment or software that is going to spy on me. The government can go jump in a lake if they think we’re going to stand for this. How much money does Google need that it sells its soul in this way? I may have to dump my gmail and start using someone else for searches, etc. Google seems to be outgrowing its own conscience.

Mike Malloy Fired Air America
Late night on Air America Radio will never be the same now Mike Malloy has been fired. It is being reported his time slot will be taken over by the wonderful and articulate Laura Flanders but in my opinion, her style is not really conducive to the late night radio audience.

Although some of the other AAR personalities are excellent, there is nobody quite like Mike.
Some religious zealots, those less enlightened as well as others will no doubt be happy to see Mike go but not me. In fact I must credit him with saving my sanity if not my life immediately following the 2004 faux presidential election. At that time I swear the only thing that kept me from slitting my wrists was listening late at night to Mike’s voice consoling others who felt the same way I did. He helped me feel less crazy.

Mike could be rough and abrasive at times but also had a softer side when the moment called for it. During the past two years, I have listened to Mike appropriately rant and rave on many issues. I saw his anger as justified when pointing out the unlawful and hypocritical antics we are often subjected to by the administration. I also witnessed his anger turn on a dime and tone it down when trying to calm the nerves of a scared listener. I could closely relate when the caller was a mother concerned about protecting her children from the pending doom being brought upon our country by the administration. Mike never sugar coated the facts but he would talk to those callers of different options while giving them the courage and hope to fight on.

Listeners always got the truth from Mike Malloy, which is a scarce commodity in the media today. I, for one, certainly hope Mike’s voice will find another place to broadcast. In these trying times we are in desperate need of voices we can trust to entertain and inform us while giving us the straight scoop. Mike is one of those voices and we can’t afford to lose him. What is your problem Air America? Wake Up or give me back my money!
