The latest revelation in the Bush administration’s campaign to subvert our Constitution
was revealed in a New York Times article entitled
Bank Data Reviewed by U.S. to Fight Terror
Apparently our bank accounts are also part of the NSA’s spying program. The program relies on a Belgian cooperative known as Swift, a company exempt from American laws restricting government access to private information because it is considered a messenger, not a financial institution.
This “offshore” tactic is part of a pattern the White House and NSA has established to evade the Constitution until they can permanently change it. You can see it in the way
they use foreign prisons to “render” kidnapped victims to be held and tortured. You can
find evidence of our military bases in other countries, I’m thinking of a certain US Airforce base in England, where the technology for spying can be set up legally.
Why do you think we have a concentration camp for so-called terrorists set up in Guantanamo Bay and not within the country itself?
What are we to do when the laws of our country can be bypassed the way corporations bypass the tax laws? Short of some kind of meaningful oversight, don’t hold your breath, from the other branches of our government, we may need to look offshore also. In the end, international law may need to be empowered in a way the world has not seen before. The U.N., The World Court, or international committees may need to assert themselves and we need to support that. Of course, that may be a long way off.
In the meantime, we need to fight the good fight here at home to save our Constitution. Good luck to us all.

Hey wake up yourself, the Bush Administration is doing what we elected them to do. I would love to hear what you think would be better for us in this country had Al Gore or John Kerry actually won in 2000 or 2004. I would bet you would think taxing the hell out of the rich to give it away to the people that don’t work is better than tax cuts that have spurred our economy.
The odd thing about that, Jon, is that the Bush administration wasn’t elected. Either time. If Al Gore had been permitted to take office, this country would never have gone into Iraq and would have focused on fighting terrorism, and not gotten distracted by greed, oil, imperialism, etc.
The taxation comment is something I’ll let someone else tackle because I’m just sure it’s a joke.

You really need to join this reality and stop with the liberal bs that President Bush wasn’t elected. He won both 2000 and 2004 Presidential elections, no matter how much you liberals want to cry about it. Had the elcetion gone the exact same way except Gore or kerry won you wouldn’t be claiming they stole the elections, now would you?
You are right we would have never gone to war in to Iraq and we would still dealing with Saddam and WMD’s. We would also have been attacked at least 3 or 4 more times after 9/11. You liberals need to wake up to the fact that the reason we haven’t been attacked is because of the our Intelligence Community has been allowed to do what it takes to kewep all of us safe (even though you dumb liberals that have been trying to tie their hands) and had Al Gore been lected in 2000 we wouldn’t have been afforded those same protections since Bill Clinton and Al Gore gutted our Inteligence Community as part od his sham “Tax Surplus Plan”. So you keep thinking that we would have been better off with Al Gore and the rest of us will live in the real world.
Jon, first of all, stop watching Fox News, give your head a chance to clear, then begin the process of re-assessing reality and start to formulate your own thoughts. The RICH are the ones who tell the “mainstream media” what to say. Then they rely on people like you to parrot their point of view.
Their’s and apparently your true allegiance is to capitalism and not democracy and the U.S. Constitution. Maybe you don’t realize that, but if you take my advice, turn off your TV, and start reading and listening to the many dedicated people out there that aren’t supported by big money you may rediscover what it means to live in a democracy, unless of course you are a multi-millionaire or billionaire. In that case, you know what your doing. So continue your war on democracy and the Constitution.

Well, Jon, I just couldn’t pass up a chance to attempt to have an intelligent dialogue with someone from the “other” side. Perhaps we should start by you not using the same old rhetoric about liberals wanting to do nothing but tax the rich. I ask you - just how do you propose to pay for this “war on terror”? How do you propose to fund “No Child Left Behind”? How do you propose to give benefits to those who are losing their limbs to protect YOUR freedoms here in the U.S.? Oh, wait a minute, it was the Republicans who voted against any benefits to our soldiers…right Jon? It was the Republicans who actually CUT benefits to our soldiers during a time of “WAR”…right Jon? Oh, ya, it was the Republicans who say it’s fine to spend up to 8 BILLION dollars a week on a “war” that most Americans realize is a scam!!
You mention Saddam and WMD - well, just where are those weapons, Jon? Rumsfeld said he knew exactly where they were…well??? We’re still waiting for someone to find them! In the meantime, 2500 extraordinary human beings have died…and for what, Jon? The “great” Tony Snow said that 2500 was “just a number”. Can you believe that? Say that to the mothers and fathers, sisters, brothers, husbands and wives whose life has been destroyed because one of those “numbers” stands for a human life! And what did they die for? To avenge what happened on 9/11? But, then it wasn’t Hussein that had anything to do with 9/11…right? Wasn’t Bin Laden behind that terrible day? I thought Bin Laden was hiding out somewhere in Afghanistan…is that true, Jon? Did you also know that if you go to the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorists website and read what they have to say about Bin Laden, that they don’t even mention 9/11? Do you know why, Jon? Call them if you don’t believe me. The FBI says that they don’t have any hard evidence that Bin Laden had anything to do with 9/11! Wow! It just keeps getting better. Well, that is if you actually take the time to read various sources of news - other than Fox!
Open your head to what it really going on in the world. Read the newspapers from other countries and find out what the world really thinks about our current administration. The truth will set you free, Jon. In the meantime, say a prayer for my good friend’s son who is on his way to Iraq. I hope to god that he comes home in one piece.

Jon, I don’t know what media you listen to, but I suggest you listen to our podcasts instead. You have been brainwashed by the mainstream media, and more probably, Fox News, into thinking that Bush was elected. He has never been elected. Read the Robert Kennedy Jr. article in Rolling Stone magazine. It’s lays out factually the true case of the election of 2004 and how there was a planned, concerted effort on the part of Republicans to disenfranchise voters, throw out votes, and even change electronic votes already cast. It happened. Now we have to change the way voting is done and make sure it never happens again so that we don’t get into any more of these massively fraudulent and illegal wars.

This _has_ to be a joke post. The rich getting richer doesn’t equate to the broader economy being better. More Wal-Mart jobs doesn’t mean a better job market.
